Laurie is a Certified Medical Transcriptionist with 26 years experience in the transcription industry. Most recently, she served as president and owner of DataKey LLC, a medical transcription company founded in Maryland in 1997. Previously, she founded and was president of a medical transcription company that operated from 1989 until its sale to a national transcription company in 1995.

Laurie has developed a training program for MTs and consults to various medical transcription resource publications. She has been key in the development of an MT mentoring program that trains and accredits new MTs.

Laurie majored in medical secretary studies at Hagerstown Business College. She has been active in the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI, formerly AAMT), having served on national committees and held several positions with the Maryland state chapter.
